A recent analysis by AleaSoft Energy Forecasting shows that a widespread heatwave across Europe significantly increased electricity demand, pushing weekly average power prices above €115/MWh in most major European electricity markets.

Compared with the previous week, average electricity prices rose across Belgium, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Germany, the Nordic region, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. With the exception of the Nordic market, Portugal, and Spain, all major markets recorded weekly average prices above €115/MWh.
Belgium posted the highest weekly average price at €148.34/MWh, followed by Italy. The Nordic market remained the lowest at €68.24/MWh, while both Portugal and Spain averaged €87.37/MWh.
Belgium also recorded the highest daily electricity price of the week, reaching €257.55/MWh on June 24, its highest level since December 2024. On the same day, the Dutch market climbed to €227.99/MWh, also marking its highest daily price since December 2024.
France and the UK reached daily prices of €157.87/MWh and €184.65/MWh, respectively, their highest levels since January 2025. Germany recorded €207.84/MWh, the country's highest daily electricity price since November 2025.
According to AleaSoft, the heatwave was the primary driver behind the price increase, as higher temperatures boosted electricity demand, particularly for cooling. At the same time, lower solar generation in Italy, Portugal, and Spain, together with weaker wind power output in Germany and Italy, further tightened electricity supply.
Natural gas prices also continued to influence the European power market. Although ICE TTF natural gas futures fell to a weekly low settlement price of €40.41/MWh—the lowest level since April 21—and closed the week at €40.78/MWh, down 3.1% from the previous Friday, electricity prices remained elevated due to strong demand and reduced renewable generation.
Looking ahead, AleaSoft expects electricity demand to decline across most European markets during the first week of July, which is likely to ease wholesale power prices.
Meanwhile, Germany and Spain both achieved new solar generation milestones last week. On June 24, Germany generated 489 GWh of solar power in a single day, setting a new June record and becoming the country's second-highest daily solar output on record. Spain followed on June 26 with a new daily solar generation record of 267 GWh.
For the coming week, AleaSoft forecasts that solar generation will increase in Italy but decline in both Germany and Spain.
